Taking Back Miami

After a Miami housing project was condemned, and a promised low-income housing development fell through, the displaced residents decided to take action. For six months, 50 homeless people took over a parcel of land in the Liberty City portion of Miami in a fight against the city and developers. Using cardboard boxes and wood pallets, the activists built Umoja Village. Here, Fort Lauderdale photographer Bryan Bogater documents the Take Back The Land movement.
